After nearly three years, the United States of America has finally sent an Ambassador to South Africa. Ambassador Lana Marks was born in South Africa and emigrated to the USA in the 80s. She founded a luxury handbag brand bearing her name. Importantly the USA is South Africa’s third largest trading partner, with two-way trade in 2018 valued at 13.7 billion dollars, or more than R203 billion. Also, PEPFAR, the United State’s biggest Aids relief project does the bulk of its work in South Africa. US Ambassador-designate Lana Marks is in studio with us.
